Solar energy technology company Hanergy has signed up as an official partner of the Beijing ePrix, the inaugural race on the International Motorsport Federation’s (FIA) Formula E Championship electric car-racing calendar.
The race will take place on September 13 in the Chinese city, with cars racing around the iconic Bird’s Nest stadium, which was the centrepiece for the 2008 summer Olympic Games. For the Beijing ePrix, Hanergy will install its customised solar power system throughout the event area to provide part of the total energy requirements for the race.
The first edition of the championship, in 2014-15, will feature 10 teams and will take place across 10 street circuits worldwide.
Alejandro Agag, the chief executive of Formula E, said: “We expect Formula E not only to bring excitement but also serve as a platform for research and development of electric vehicles. We are impressed by the advantages of the thin-film solar technology of Hanergy Solar and our partnership with Hanergy Solar will be instrumental in promoting electric vehicles and the use of sustainable and efficient electric energy. It will also raise awareness of environmental protection and will thus be conducive to the sustainability of the community.”
