Chevrolet extends deal for Detroit IndyCar race

US automotive brand Chevrolet has extended its title sponsorship of the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix IndyCar US motor-racing event.

The race will continue to be known as the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, but Chevrolet’s continued sponsorship will enable the event to remain at Belle Isle.

Chevrolet’s support of the event began in 2012, when it helped reprise the event after a four-year absence. The company worked with Grand Prix officials at Belle Isle to develop the track and has so far committed $2.7m (€2m) to improvements.

Bud Denker, chairman of the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, said: “Without the support of Chevrolet, we would not have been able to bring world-class auto racing back to the Motor City and with an extension of this partnership we know the future certainly looks bright on Belle Isle for the Grand Prix.”

Jim Campbell, Chevrolet US vice-president of performance vehicles and motorsports, added: “This event, which provides an opportunity for us to connect with current and prospective customers and delivers great action for our race fans, also results in a significant economic impact to the City of Detroit and the region.”

The 2014 Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will take place from May 30 until June 1.
