Credit cards, loans and savings specialist Capital One has struck a multi-year deal to become the new title sponsor of the Orange Bowl US college American football game.
Under the terms of the deal, the event will now be known as the Capital One Orange Bowl beginning with this year’s edition on December 31.
Capital One struck the deal with US sports broadcaster ESPN, rights holder for the College Football Playoff (CFP), a new system in college American football that determines the national champion of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision.
From this season, the Capital One Bowl will join the Cotton, Fiesta, Peach, Rose and Sugar Bowls to make up the group of six bowls that will host the new CFP.
In addition to title sponsorship of the Orange Bowl, Capital One will also become the official credit card and bank of the CFP.
Luis Boué, president of the Orange Bowl, said: “Capital One’s commitment to collegiate athletics, teamed with ESPN’s reputation as a sports leader and the Orange Bowl’s championship tradition will ensure a beneficial relationship for all of us.”
