MotoGP World Championship motorcycling team Yamaha Factory Racing has entered into a partnership with insurance company Pont Grup.
The company has agreed a three-year deal to become an official regional sponsor of the Italian-based team for the 2016 to 2018 MotoGP seasons. Financial terms of the deal, which marks the team's first regional partnership, were not disclosed.
As part of the deal, Pont Grup will lend its support to Yamaha throughout the MotoGP season and will also extend its backing to the Yamaha Spain team, which competes in the Dakar Rally motorsport event.
Lin Jarvis, managing director at Yamaha, said: “The new contract with Pont Grup is the first of what we hope will be many new partnerships around the world as we expand our reach with new regional sponsorship programmes.”
Yamaha is the reigning MotoGP constructers’ champion and its Spanish driver Jorge Lorenzo also won last year’s riders’ championship, edging out team-mate Valentino Rossi of Italy.
The 2016 MotoGP season gets underway in the Qatari capital of Doha on March 20.
