BMW and Renault buy in to Formula E vision

German automotive manufacturer BMW is set to become the latest partner for Formula E, while French counterpart Renault has signed on as the title sponsor of the new fully-electronic motor racing championship’s e.dams team.

BMW has said it is finalising an agreement for it to become the official vehicle supplier to Formula E. The agreement would see BMW supply a fleet of its fully-electric and hybrid vehicles to be used as course, medical and VIP cars at all race events.

Jörg Reimann, vice-president of BMW Brand Experience, said: “As a global manufacturer at the forefront of innovation and technology, BMW regards Formula E as a great platform in which to showcase our range of fully-electric and hybrid vehicles and to align our common goals. We are working on an agreement to finalise this partnership.”

Renault is also a founding technical partner of Formula E and its new commitment to the series sees it become title sponsor of the e.dams Renault outfit.

The inaugural Formula E season gets under way on September 13 when Beijing hosts its first round.
