Aon extends its stay at United for 8 more years

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE football club Manchester United has secured an eight-year deal with insurance company Aon which covers the naming rights to the team’s training ground.

Effective July 1, the contract will see United’s training ground renamed the Aon Training Complex.

The deal represents the first time a Premier League club has sold the naming rights to its training facility.

London-based Aon will also sponsor United’s training kit, which will carry the brand’s logo during all domestic fixtures and during training sessions.

Aon replaces logistics company DHL as the training kit sponsor. The club bought back its rights from DHL two years into a four-year to secure a more lucrative deal.

Further, the new partnership will see Aon become the presenting partner of all Manchester United pre-season tours.

According to British media reports, the deal is worth between £120m ($183.4m) and £180m over the eight years.

Aon is United’s current shirt sponsor but will be replaced by Chevrolet at the start of the 2014-15 season following a seven-year agreement between the club and General Motors.

“The first phase of our relationship brought Aon an explosion in brand awareness,” said Phil Clement, Aon’s global chief marketing and communications officer.

“This phase of our partnership is a more holistic approach where we can use our expertise and create a global dialogue."
