US software giant Microsoft has agreed a partnership with Toyota ahead of the Japanese automotive manufacturer’s return to the World Rally Championship (WRC) motor racing series for 2017.
Toyota Gazoo Racing will enter the upcoming series as one of five factory teams, with Microsoft to serve as a technology partner for the 2017 season.
Microsoft branding will appear on the side of the team’s car, with the company also set to work with the team on a series of technological developments, including a data analysis platform, an information-sharing system and enhanced communication with fans.
The 2017 WRC season will begin with the Monte Carlo Rally in Monaco from January 20-22.
