UK-based telecoms operator Three has suspended its main shirt sponsorship deal with Chelsea following the UK government’s decision to place owner Roman Abramovich on a financial sanctions list of wealthy individuals linked to the Russian state.

Three signed the deal, worth about £40m (€47.7m/$52.5m) per season from 2020-21 to 2022-23, in January 2020, but has taken swift action after sanctions were imposed on Abramovich. The Russian had also put the club up for sale – a move that the government may now allow under specific circumstances.
