Security screening company Rapiscan Systems has become the latest sponsor of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia.
All physical security screening equipment needed at the Commonwealth Games Village and Games venues will be provided and installed by Rapiscan. The company already operates in more than 100 countries worldwide.
Rapiscan has supported major sporting events in the past, such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the 2010 Fifa World Cup and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The supplier exhibited its services and equipment, including x-ray machines and metal detection, at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre on Thursday, the venue at which the swimming and diving events for the multi-sport competition will take place next year.
Peter Beattie, the chairman of the local organising committee, said that the combination of Rapiscan’s experience and product offering are crucial as GC2018 commences the roll out of security overlay leading into the Games.
“Rapiscan has had strong experience delivering security scanning solutions for previous Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games and other major international sporting events," he said.
“Importantly for fans, the products help to deliver a safe and secure environment while still allowing for efficient access to venues for patrons, athletes and officials in an unobtrusive manner.”
The Games will run from April 4-15.
