Pirelli extends Superbike World Championship deal

Pirelli has extended a deal to serve as the official tyre supplier of the Superbike World Championship.

The company, which has been a partner of the championship since 2004, will prolong the relationship for three seasons, through to 2018. Dorna, the championship’s promoter, said that Pirelli had won a tender for the contract.

Pirelli will continue to supply tyres for all of the classes of the Superbike World Championship, which is operated by the FIM, motorcycling’s global governing body.

“This renewal testifies our excellent relationship with the Italian company, a partnership for more than a decade that has always been strong with both the FIM and the promoter and organiser of the series, and is clear evidence of Pirelli's ongoing and constant ability to innovate and to offer products at the forefront of technology,” the championship’s executive director, Javier Alonso, said.

The championship’s sporting director, Gregorio Lavilla, added: “The consistency in the technical support provided by the brand at the races with their presence in the paddock and their professional development away from track provides the competitive racing and the year on year improvement in terms of lap times that we have seen over the years – an average reduction of race time of 0.7 seconds per year. The continuation also provides both teams and riders with confidence in making further steps forward in the next years.”

Pirelli is also a partner of the Rally, Motocross and Endurance World Championships.
