Japanese electronics company Panasonic has agreed a deal to sponsor the 2020 summer Paralympic Games, which will take place in Tokyo.
Panasonic struck the agreement, which names it as a top-tier gold partner of the Games, with the Tokyo 2020 organising committee.
The company becomes a gold partner in the ‘audio-visual equipment, home appliances, electric bicycles, care products and power assist suit’ category.
As a gold partner, Panasonic will be granted rights to use Paralympic designations and imagery such as emblems, mascots and slogans in marketing campaigns. The company will also sponsor the Japanese Paralympic team.
Panasonic president Kazuhiro Tsuga said: “For 16 years, from the Nagano 1998 winter Paralympic Games, Panasonic was a proud supporter of the Paralympic Games. And in 2014, we became the first Japanese company to become a Worldwide Paralympic Partner of the International Paralympic Committee.
“Panasonic will continue to support the Paralympic Movement and strive to create an inclusive society for persons with impairments through supporting para-sports, while also offering products and services accessible to everyone, including the elderly and persons with impairments.”
The addition of Panasonic brings the total number of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic partners to 44. The Paralympic partners include four Worldwide Olympic Partners – Atos, Bridgestone, Omega and Panasonic – as Tokyo 2020 Paralympic gold partners.
