Manchester City snaps up iON deal

English Premier League football club Manchester City has entered into a three-year partnership with camera brand iON.

Under the deal, City will integrate iON’s technology across its operations, in particular the company’s point-of-view cameras that will be used to capture behind-the-scenes footage of the squad in training – content that will be shown on the club’s official website.

This usage will double up as a tool for the team’s performance analysis and coaching staff, with the iON footage used to assess the technical performance of players from first-team to youth level. Grassroots activity at one-off iON football clinics will integrate the camera technology products as an educational tool.

Additionally, iON will launch fan initiatives in association with Manchester City, from the installation of fan booths in the club’s pre-match City Square entertainment zone at the Etihad Stadium to software that will allow fans to upload their own football moves and compare themselves with star players.

Tom Glick, chief commercial and operating officer for Manchester City, said: “The nature of the innovative content will be a big hit with our fans around the world, especially our international pre-season tours, where the cameras will play a key role.” Manchester City currently lies third in the Premier League table and faces Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.
