Home Depot makes way for StubHub Center

SECONDARY TICKETING company StubHub has agreed a multi-year deal for the naming rights to Los Angeles Galaxy’s ground, the Home Depot Center.

It is understood that the Major League Soccer side’s 27,000-seater stadium in Carson, California, will be renamed the StubHub Center from June 1, exactly 10 years after it was opened.

Although details of the contract are yet to be released, US news sources are reporting the deal to be a six-year agreement worth in excess of the $7m per year paid by home improvement retailer Home Depot since 2003.

The Home Depot Center is part of an Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG)-owned and operated multisport complex which also serves as an Olympic training facility for tennis, track and field and cycling.

StubHub’s naming rights deal follows in the footsteps of November’s agreement between the company’s parent, eBay, and AEG, which saw StubHub become the first official ticket reseller for all AEG venues across the globe.

As part of that deal, StubHub replaced Home Depot as a founding partner of the AEG-owned Staples Center, also in Los Angeles.

The ticketing company is making strides in the football market, having also been named as Official Secondary Ticket Partner of English Premier League sides Everton, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur.
