GlaxoSmithKline is in talks with the International Olympic Committee about joining its TOP sponsor programme, according to US news sources.
The IOC is currently seeking two new sponsors for the 2013-16 Olympic cycle and hopes to secure deals ahead of September’s IOC Session in Buenos Aires.
The British pharmaceutical company served as the official laboratory services provider for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
A spokeswoman for GSK declined to discuss the company’s negotiations with the IOC, adding: “We are not in a position to comment on speculation.”
Coca-Cola, Atos, Dow, GE, McDonald’s, Omega, Panasonic, P&G, Samsung and Visa currently serve as worldwide TOP partners of the IOC. The TOP programme is the IOC’s highest tier of sponsorship.
