The Cleveland Browns’ first victory since December 2016 – a 21-17 win against the New York Jets on Thursday – was also a PR triumph for Bud Light.
As part of a marketing campaign, the Anheuser-Busch company installed locked fridges full of Bud Lights around Cleveland that would open only after a Browns victory – providing free beer to joyous fans.
With the Cleveland Police department and the Browns themselves tweeting about the Bud Light campaign moments after the Baker Mayfield-led victory, leading to tens of thousands of likes and retweets (among many other social media posts and articles), the beer company toasted the win as much as the formerly-hapless NFL team.
Bud Light vice president Andy Goeler told ESPN the company “couldn’t be more thrilled for the Browns and the city of Cleveland”.
