Chicago Cubs feed on Giordano’s partnership

Chicago Cubs have entered into a three-year deal with locally based pizzeria Giordano’s that makes it the exclusive pizza of the MLB baseball team and its Wrigley Field home.

Along with serving Giordano’s pizzas on gamedays at Wrigley Field, the Cubs will host Giordano’s Day on June 20 when the restaurant chain will be extensively promoted during the MLB home fixture against Seattle Mariners. Giordano’s will also receive rotating ads on existing LED screens in the ballpark.

Giordano’s opened in 1974 and is widely credited with pioneering Chicago’s famed stuffed pizza. It was bought at auction in November 2011 for $61.6m (€45.6m) by Chicago-based Victory Park Capital having filed for bankruptcy in February 2011 and has since enjoyed a renaissance.

Having opened a new restaurant last month, five more are planned for 2014 to add to its 41 in the Chicago area and three in Florida, according to the Chicago Tribune newspaper.
