Cavs sign up UnitedCoin, as cryptocurrency brands target US

The Cleveland Cavaliers NBA franchise and its associated NBA 2K League esports team Cavs Legion GC have partnered with cryptocurrency blockchain provider UnitedCoin.

Under the deal, UnitedCoin will get LED signage inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse during Cavs games and other branding opportunities, team activations and content during the upcoming 2019-20 season.

UnitedCoin also becomes the Official Cryptocurrency Partner of Cavs Legion. This includes brand visibility on the team’s social media channels and virtual home court during gameplay in the NBA 2K League.

The partnership will bring awareness to the UnitedCoin brand and platform, while providing the Cavs with a financial technology resource, the club said in a statement.

Nic Barlage, president of business operations at the Cavaliers, said: “As decentralised technology continues to evolve, we know it is important for us to stay ahead of the curve and plan for how it will impact our fan experience and business as we move forward.”

Derek Jones, founder and chief executive of UnitedCoin, added: “Our partnership is a great opportunity to introduce Cavs and Legion fans to our insured blockchain platform and educate them about and the benefits of cryptocurrency, a safe and secure alternative to spending cash.”

Last week, another cryptocurrency business, Litecoin, become the Official Cryptocurrency of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.

Under the deal, Litecoin will get in-game branding and advertising opportunities at Hard Rock Stadium and branding across the team’s various online properties and digital content.
