German Bundesliga football club VfL Wolfsburg has signed a partnership with Styria, a region in southern Austria.
Under the agreement, which will run until at least the end of June 2021, Styria will be the club’s official travel partner.
As part of the deal, Styria will host Wolfsburg’s summer training camps. The squad’s summer training camp this year has also been in Styria, in the town of Schladming.
International Football Camp Styria chief executive Kian Walizadeh, who helped to broker the partnership, said that talks over a possible deal started two years ago.
The club’s managing director, Michael Meeske, added: “The training camp here for our first team marks the start of a comprehensive marketing campaign via our regional, national and international communications channels, with which we intend to position Styria as the number-one tourist location.”
Wolfsburg finished sixth in the Bundesliga last season to secure qualification to the Uefa Europa League group stage.
