The Formula E electric car-racing series has enhanced its partnership with the European arm of payment services company Visa.
Visa Europe has been named the series’ official payment partner for the next three years, beginning with the upcoming 2015-16 season and culminating in the 2017-18 campaign. The company sponsored the European leg of the championship during its inaugural 2014-15 season.
Visa Europe has also named current Formula E champion Nelson Piquet Jr as its driver ambassador. In addition, the Visa Fastest Lap, a trophy awarded to the driver that posts the quickest lap-time in each race along with two additional points, will continue to be handed out over the next three years.
As part of the deal, Visa Europe will also receive extensive trackside advertising, tickets and race rights for its markets and members.
Alejandro Agag, Formula E chief executive, said: “Visa is a company with worldwide recognition and a reputation for pioneering innovation. This partnership once again shows the burgeoning profile and success of Formula E.”
The 2015-16 Formula E season begins with the Beijing ePrix in China on Saturday.
