Commercial airline Virgin Australia has agreed a two-year partnership with the Basketball Australia governing body that extends through to 2016.
Under the agreement, Virgin Australia becomes the official airline of Australia’s men’s and women’s national teams and will provide travel to and from the 2014 International Basketball Federation (Fiba) World Cup and World Championship later this year.
Virgin Australia will also present exclusive behind-the-scenes digital content covering both teams’ campaigns, with fans invited to follow their progress through Basketball Australia’s website and official Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.
Basketball Australia chairman Scott Derwin said: “Over the last decade, Virgin Australia has provided invaluable support to both the National Basketball League and the Women’s National Basketball League, and we’re thrilled the airline is now throwing significant weight behind our national teams.”
The 2014 World Cup for Men will be held in Spain from August 30 to September 15, while the World Championship for Women runs from September 27 to October 5 in Turkey.
