Swiss investment bank and financial services company UBS has extended its deal as the main sponsor of annual invitational ice hockey tournament the Spengler Cup.
Having first backed the competition in 1985, UBS has now struck a fresh five-year deal covering the tournaments running from 2019 to 2023.
UBS serves as the Spengler Cup’s sole Presenting Partner. It currently honours the top performing athletes, with the UBS Key Player Award going to the best player of each team at the end of every game. Fans watching in the stadium and on television get to vote for the award using the official Spengler Cup app.
In addition, UBS also backs the Youth Practice with the Spengler Cup Stars event. Marc Gianola, president of the Spengler Cup organising committee, said: “UBS and the Spengler Cup organisation are well aware that continued success requires consistency. This, and the fact that both parties put much emphasis on the methods used to achieve these goals, is what defines the partnership.”
The 92nd Spengler Cup will take place in the Swiss town of Davos from December 26-31.
