Korean multinational electronics firm Samsung has agreed a global partnership with bicycle manufacturer Trek Bicycle and its UCI ProTour cycling team Trek Factory Racing that will run through 2015.
Beginning with the Tour de France, which launched in Yorkshire, England over the weekend, Samsung is providing Trek Factory Racing Team with a full suite of mobile devices to support their operations.
Samsung branding will be present on the cycling kits worn by Trek Factory Racing riders. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Both parties are also set to collaborate over ways to further integrate Samsung products into the team’s methods both in training and competition.
Trek’s senior vice-president Joe Vadeboncoeur said: “Hopefully over time you will start to see Samsung devices mounted on the bicycle and, at some point in the future, we anticipate working on more cycling specific things to utilise all the data that could come off the bicycle. Getting started with the Tour de France was a big key because it’s such a high profile event with high visibility.”
