Japanese sportswear company Asics has agreed to become a gold partner of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the sporting goods category.
The partnership is effective immediately, running until December 31, 2020, and means Asics will support Japanese Olympic and Paralympic teams, as well as becoming the 10th member of the top tier of Tokyo 2020’s domestic sponsorship programme.
The agreement also covers Japan’s participation in the Rio 2016 summer and PyeongChang 2018 winter Olympic Games, along with the 2016 Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer and the 2018 summer equivalent in Buenos Aires. The 2020 Youth winter Games also falls under the partnership, although the host city is yet to be confirmed.
Asics’ previous formal associations with the Olympics were as an official sponsor of footwear for the Barcelona 1992 Games and as an official sponsor for the Torino 2006 winter Olympics. It will provide kit to Tokyo 2020 volunteers as well as all athletes on the national team.
The other gold partners of Tokyo 2020 are Asahi, Canon, Eneos, NEC, NTT, Nomura, Fujitsu, Tokyo Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance and Nissay.
