Subaru backs Canada’s Ironman World Championship

Japanese car manufacturer Subaru is to become title sponsor of the World Triathlon Corporation’s 2014 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Quebec, Canada.

The 2014 event will be known as the Subaru 2014 Ironman 70.3 World Championship. Subaru will support the event through its Subaru Canada subsidiary. The 2014 Ironman 70.3 World Championship will take place in Mont Tremblant, Quebec, on September 7.

Subaru has been involved with Ironman triathlon sponsorship since it began its support of Ironman Canada in the mid-1990s. The firm has since extended this sponsorship to various other Ironman triathlon events in Canada.

Ted Lalka, vice-president of marketing for Subaru Canada, said: “Adding Subaru to the title of the 2014 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Mont Tremblant is a significant step in growing our brand within the triathlon community.”

In addition to the Ironman 70.3 World Championship deal, Subaru will also continue as title sponsor of four additional Ironman triathlon events in Canada. These comprise the Ironman North American Championship Mont-Tremblant, Ironman Canada, Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant and Ironman 70.3 Muskoka.

In addition, under a partnership with Canadian pay-television broadcaster Rogers Sportsnet, the Subaru Ironman TV initiative will return with a four-race television series. This will include the Ironman Mont-Tremblant North American Championship, Ironman Canada, Ironman 70.3 World Championship and the Ironman World Championship.
