Japanese watch manufacturer Seiko has agreed a deal to sponsor this year’s World Para Athletics Championships, which will take place in London.
As part of the agreement, Seiko will provide timing and measurement equipment that has been specifically designed for athletics events.
Equipment will include start information, video distance management, transponder timing systems and in-field scoreboards at London Stadium in the English capital.
“In less than four months’ time the Summer of World Athletics will be well underway and Seiko have a key role in helping us deliver the best Championships,” event director Niels de Vos said. “They are a world leader in their industry having provided services for some of the biggest events and we look forward to working with them on the Championships, which form part of the biggest sporting event in the world in 2017.”
Seiko has partnered with the International Association of Athletics Federations since 1985, and provided timing services for each of its World Athletics Championships since 1987.
This year’s World Para Athletics Championships take place from July 14-23, with the IAAF World Championships to follow from August 4-13. It will mark the first time that both events have been held in the same city.
