Schalke strips Gazprom branding from shirts, Uefa calls extraordinary meeting

German 2. Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 has decided to remove the logo of its main sponsor Gazprom from the team’s shirtfronts in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The club initially took a circumspect approach after Russia made its first incursions into eastern Ukraine, saying that it would “monitor further developments, evaluate them and urgently appeal for peace”.
