German Bundeliga football club Schalke 04 has reached a two-year deal to make the Melia Hotel International group its official hotel partner.
Schalke will use Melia hotels where possible when it arranges overnight plans for its Uefa Champions League matches during the 2014-15 season.
The deal, financial terms for which were not disclosed, marks Spanish firm Melia’s first partnership with a major European football club.
Schalke fans are also set to benefit from special offers on Bundesliga away days and international trips over the course of the agreement.
Partnering with Melia continues a busy close season for Schalke. In May it sealed a four-year extension with stadium naming rights partner C&A Veltins Brewery, while earlier this month it penned a one-year renewed sponsorship agreement with garden products retailer Bauhaus and entered into a new two-year tie-up with Huawei to make the Chinese telecommunications company a premium partner.
