Spanish LaLiga football club Espanyol has agreed a deal for Mexican tourism destination Riviera Maya to become its new main sponsor.
The six-year deal will take effect from January 2018 and run until the summer of 2023. Riviera Maya is an existing sponsor of the club and the new deal has been agreed with the Government of Quintana Roo, where the resort is based.
As part of the agreement, Riviera Maya’s branding will feature on the front of Espanyol’s shirts from January. The resort will also benefit from exposure at the club’s stadium and training ground, and across the team’s online channels.
Riviera Maya will also be able to carry out various other marketing initiatives and use the club’s hospitality offerings to promote itself.
Darío Flota, director of tourism promotion for Riviera Maya, said: “We are a tourist destination that competes in an industry with more participants. Tourism has proven to be an activity that moderates in a positive way the economy of the countries where it is developed. Being linked to a football team will allow our brand to reach many countries.”
