Premier League clubs ‘consider sponsorship pre-approval process’

English Premier League clubs may decide to scrutinise every club sponsorship for owner-related influence in response to the takeover of Newcastle United by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).

So-called ‘related party’ sponsorships have been temporarily banned by Premier League clubs in the wake of the Saudi-backed takeover, which rival clubs fear will inject cash into the club via inflated sponsorship fees from Saudi-owned companies.
