Telecommunications company Vodafone has signed on as title sponsor of the Premier Badminton League franchise competition, which takes place in India.
Vodafone will hold rights to the 2017 edition of the event, which got underway on Sunday and runs until January 14.
The event will feature six teams: the Chennai Smashers, Hyderabad Hunters, Bengalaru Blasters, Delhi Acers, Awadhe Warriors and Mumbai Rockets. The tournament will feature a prize fund of Rs 6 crore (€844,000/$878,000), making it the most lucrative badminton event in the world.
“Their decision to associate with the league not only shows Vodafone’s commitment towards Indian sports but also their belief in the growing stature of the PBL,” Prasad Mangipudi, managing director of SportzLive, the licensee holder of the league, said, according to TheSportsCampus.com. “I am quite confident that our dedication and their support will help us to take the league to new heights this year.”
Pay-television broadcaster Star Sports served as the title sponsor of the 2016 edition of the PBL.
