PlayStation backs MLS esports competition

PlayStation, the video game brand of Japanese consumer electronics company Sony, has been named as the presenting sponsor of the inaugural eMLS Cup, the new esports competition for North America’s Major League Soccer.

The eMLS Cup will debut this week at the PAX East gaming festival in Boston, with preliminary rounds to begin today (Thursday).

PlayStation4 will be featured across eMLS programming to promote competitive gaming on EA Sports’ Fifa title in the US and Canada.

The eMLS Cup will feature players from the US and Canada representing 19 MLS clubs. This week’s event will see gamers compete for spots in the EA Sports Fifa 18 Global Series Playoffs on the Road to the Fifa eWorld Cup in August. The tournament will conclude on Sunday.
