NRL’s Raiders dial up Huawei extension

Chinese telecommunications company Huawei has renewed its major sponsorship deal with Australian NRL rugby league club the Canberra Raiders.

The new three-year deal covers the 2017 to 2019 NRL seasons. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, although the Canberra Times newspaper reported the deal would be worth a record A$1m (€674,000/$761,000) per season.

Huawei’s branding will continue to appear on the front of the Raiders’ playing jerseys as part of the deal.

Huawei became the Raiders’ major sponsor in 2012 and the two parties have since teamed up on a number of charity initiatives.

“Huawei and the Canberra Raiders have built a solid and successful partnership over the past five years,” Huawei Australia chairman John Lord said. “Our consumer products are growing in popularity and the Raiders are playing an important role to push the brand out to more and more people.”
