Sportswear company Nike has extended its sponsorship of the United States Olympic Committee (Usoc) through to 2020.
Under the extension, Nike will provide US Olympic and Paralympic athletes with footwear and apparel, including the medal stand uniform that will be worn on the podium. The new deal will begin after the 2016 summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will cover the 2018 winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea and the 2020 summer Olympics Games in Tokyo, Japan.
“Nike has been a proud partner of the Usoc since 2005 and we are excited to extend our support of Olympic and Paralympic athletes through 2020,” said David Schriber, Nike’s vice-president of marketing for North America. “Nike’s mission is to provide inspiration and innovation to every athlete and this is another opportunity to show our continued support of Team USA athletes and the Usoc.”
Nike will also provide uniforms for the 2016, 2018 and 2020 US youth Olympic teams and US athletes at the 2019 Pan American Games. Usoc chief marketing officer Lisa Baird added: “Nike innovations have long been instrumental for many Team USA athletes as they perform at the Olympic or Paralympic Games, and we are inspired by the memorable looks and styles Nike has created for Team USA athletes during the Games and on the medal stand.”
