North American motor-racing series IndyCar intends to secure a first presenting sponsor for its flagship Indianapolis 500 race.
The 100th running of the race takes place at Indianapolis Motor Speedway next year and Mark Miles, the chief executive of IndyCar parent company Hulman & Co, expects to have secured a backer by that time.
“I think we’ll have a presenting sponsor of the Indianapolis 500 race by next year’s race,” Miles told NBC Sports’ MotorSportsTalk website. “There’s a few prospects. But it could very well be a new company to come in as a partner, and there’s more out there.”
A presenting sponsor for the Indianapolis 500 would add to a burgeoning portfolio of major companies signing up to back IndyCar, which includes Verizon, Panasonic, Sunoco and Angie’s List.
