The Spanish Football League (LFP) has agreed a two-year sponsorship deal with Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei.
Under the agreement, which will cover the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons and has the option to extend the arrangement by a further year, Huawei will become the league’s technology partner under the category of smartphones.
The partnership incorporates branding rights to the Spanish top-tier Liga and second-tier Segunda Division, with the potential to develop exclusive Spanish football content for Huawei phones.
LFP president Javier Tebas said: “Without doubt, with this agreement the LFP further enhances its projection in markets in other continents such as Asia.”
In August 2012, Huawei acquired Atletico Madrid’s shirt sponsorship rights for two league games and its Uefa Super Cup clash against Chelsea. The deal came after Atletico agreed a one-off shirt sponsorship contract with Huawei for the 2011-12 season’s home derby clash against Real Madrid.
