International banking group HSBC has reached an agreement to become the official bank of the PGA Championship of golf’s European Tour.
The deal expands HSBC’s establish presence in golf, which includes title sponsorships of the World Golf Champions event in Shanghai, the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and the Women’s Champions in Singapore. It is also a patron of the Open Championship – the world’s oldest major tournament.
Wentworth is the long-time host of the PGA Championship and this new partnership renews HSBC’s association with the UK golf course after it sponsored the World Match Play Championship until 2007.
Outside of golf, HSBC boasts involvement with a number of major sporting properties including tennis’ Wimbledon Championships and the British and Irish Lions in rugby union.
The 2014 PGA Championship takes place from May 22-25, with Italy’s Matteo Manassero the defending champion.
