Regional public-service radio station NDR 2 has extended its commercial partnerships with German Bundesliga football clubs Hamburg SV and Hannover 96 by another four years.
NDR 2 will serve as the exclusive media partner of Hamburg and Hannover until the end of the 2017-18 football season. The agreement with Hamburg also ensures NDR 2 will continue to partner the club’s ‘Der Hamburger Weg’ sponsorship platform.
The extension comes at an uncertain time for Hamburg as the club prepares for a relegation play-off match to retain its place in the Bundesliga. Hamburg is the only team to play every season in the German top flight since it was formed in 1963 and NDR programme director Joachim Knuth said the club’s precarious status is not a cause for concern.
“NDR 2 is a reliable partner even in turbulent times like these,” he said. “We stand by the traditional club Hamburg SV – regardless of the outcome of the play-offs.”
The station will continue to produce its popular ‘NDR 2 fanshow’ before home games for Hamburg and Hannover, the latter team having finished the Bundesliga season in 10th place.
