Formula One motor racing team Sauber has announced an extension to its sponsorship agreement with Mexican telecommunications group Telmex.
Under the deal, Telmex remains a premium partner of Sauber and retains a significant branding presence on the team’s cars.
The terms of the renewal were undisclosed but it is linked to Sauber’s confirmation over the weekend that 22-year-old Mexican Esteban Gutierrez will continue as part of their driver line-up next season having made his debut in 2013.
Russian youngster Sergey Sirotkin was expected to rival Gutierrez for his place but will serve as the Swiss team’s reserve driver.
Sirotkin’s involvement with Sauber brought significant backing from his homeland in July, when Russia’s Investment Cooperation International Fund, the State Fund of Development of North-West Russian Federation and the National Institute of Aviation Technologies all partnered with the team.
