Gold Coast 2018 nets first major sponsor

Echo Entertainment Group and its Jupiters Hotel and Casino development has signed up as the first official partner of the 2018 Commonwealth Games multi-sport event in Gold Coast, Australia.

Jupiters will serve as an official partner of Gold Coast 2018, with the A$345m (€231.8m/$255.5m) Jupiters Hotel and Casino due to be completed in the city ahead of the Commonwealth Games, which will take place from April 4-14, 2018.

Echo Entertainment chairman John O'Neill said: “The legacy of the Games will be to again position the Gold Coast as an Australian destination of choice for tourists and investors, for decades to come. As a long-standing member of the Gold Coast community, Jupiters is proud to partner with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games to help take advantage of this once-in-a-generation opportunity to propel the Gold Coast forward.”

Gold Coast 2018 organising committee chairman Nigel Chamier added: “Jupiters have demonstrated their absolute confidence in GC2018 by embarking on such an early agreement. The contribution sponsors make to GC2018 will play an important role in its success.”

The unveiling of the deal today (Monday) was attended by Gold Coast local Sally Pearson (pictured), who has won the past two Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles titles, and fellow Queenslander Bronte Campbell, a triple gold medallist at the recent Fina Swimming World Championships in Kazan, Russia.
