Energy company GDF Suez has reached an agreement to become a top tier sponsor of this year’s Giro d’Italia cycling race.
GDF Suez will enjoy premium exposure on the banners that mark one kilometre remaining on each stage of the Giro, which is one of cycling’s three ‘Grand Tours’ alongside the Tour de France and Vuelta a España.
The financial terms of the agreement brokered by Italian agency RCS Sports were undisclosed.
An established presence alongside major sporting properties in its homeland, such as the French Open tennis grand slam at Roland Garros and the French national football team, the Giro sponsorship is a significant landmark for GDF Suez’s Italian subsidiary.
The 2014 Giro d’Italia starts in Belfast, Northern Ireland on May 9 and the three-week race concludes in Trieste, Italy on June 1.
