The Formula E electric car-racing championship has extended its partnership with French tyre manufacturer Michelin.
Under the new deal signed with sanctioning body the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Michelin will continue in its role as Formula E’s sole tyre supplier until the end of the 2018-19 season.
Pascal Couasnon, director of Michelin Motorsport, said: “Formula E is a superb laboratory to foster innovation in the field of durable mobility in cities and built-up areas and Michelin is actively exploiting this golden opportunity. The tyre we design for Formula E – the Michelin Pilot Sport EV – is revolutionary in the world of motor-racing and has been acclaimed by all the championship’s drivers and teams.”
Michelin has been a technical partner of Formula E since the championship’s inception last year. The company is also vying for a Formula One contract from 2017 but faces competition from incumbent rights-holder, Italian manufacturer Pirelli.
The 2015-16 Formula E season gets underway on October 24 in Beijing, China.
