The French Basketball Federation (FFBB) has entered into a technical partnership with sports and recreation construction company SMC2.
The terms of the agreement were undisclosed, although FFBB president Jean-Pierre Siutat confirmed the co-operation would be for several years.
SMC2 will provide the FFBB with alternative building materials as the federation looks to keep costs down.
Siutat said: “It has become increasingly difficult for communities to balance the budgets of funding sports facilities. SMC2 seems to be the perfect alternative with 'light' structures, which offer all the qualities of a classic gym (at) a significantly lower cost. To pursue our goal of developing basketball in France, we can only encourage this initiative.”
