US fantasy sports gaming company DraftKings has continued its expansion in North American sports leagues through a partnership with NBA basketball team Minnesota Timberwolves.
Under the agreement, the terms for which were not disclosed, DraftKings becomes the presenting partner of Minnesota’s WolvesCast podcasts and the Timberwolves Team Stats social media tool.
DraftKings is Minnesota Timberwolves first commercial partner from the fantasy sports industry and the team’s senior vice-president and chief revenue officer Ryan Tanke said: “Fantasy sports gaming is a huge and rapidly growing industry and is something that many of our fans are interested and engaged in. This partnership and industry category opens up some great new opportunities to further connect and engage with our fans.”
DraftKings will benefit from digital courtside and basket stanchion signage for Timberwolves games at its Target Center home and a presence across the team’s official website and radio network.
Additionally, fans will be able to compete for four VIP tickets to a Timberwolves home game in the 2014-15 season through the four-week Live Like a King promotion.
Minnesota’s fellow NBA franchises Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets teamed up with DraftKings last month, while the firm has partnerships with the NHL ice hockey league and NFL American football teams Denver Broncos and New England Patriots.
