BlackBerry lands Barclays Center sponsorship

MOBILE HANDSET MANUFACTURER BlackBerry has agreed a two-year deal to sponsor NBA basketball side the Brooklyn Nets.

Under terms of the deal, the Canada-based brand has been given the naming rights to the BlackBerry Lounge, previously known as the South Club, at the Barclays Center – the new Brooklyn home of the Nets.

BlackBerry will also receive extensive branding during all events at the Barclays Center, where it will promote its latest BlackBerry Z10 smartphone.

“We’re excited about building this relationship with Barclays Center and with the Brooklyn Nets,” said Frank Boulben, BlackBerry’s chief marketing officer.

“The Barclays Center brings some of the world’s most exciting entertainment and sports events to the heart of Brooklyn. We look forward to being a part of that.”

According to the New York Post, the agreement could be worth up to as much as $5 million.

Under the deal, BlackBerry also becomes a sponsor of the Brooklyn Hoops, the Barclays Center’s college basketball festival.
