Allianz Indonesia deal targets middle-classes

THE INDONESIAN business unit of global insurance brand Allianz launched an online running community site this week in support of its recently-signed title sponsorship of the Allianz Jakarta Heart Run 10K.

Created in tandem with Total Sports Asia (TSA), the agency which brokered the partnership with Allianz Indonesia last month, the Allianz Virtual Run which will operate from October 1-21, in advance of the 10k run on November 4.

According to TSA, the digital marketing campaign provides a forum for individuals and teams to track their workouts and challenge friends with the aim of building on running’s popularity among Indonesia’s middle and upper classes.

Although running is a mass sport globally, in markets such as Indonesia and many other parts of Asia, avid runners tend to fall into the mid-to-upper class demographic.

“We hope the Allianz Virtual Run helps to create a new lifestyle for runners and a link for us to the general public who are interested with a healthy living through sport,” said Joachim Wessling, CEO and country manager of Allianz Life Indonesia.

An estimated 10,000 local and international runners will participate in the Allianz Jakarta Heart Run 10K, which will be held at the MONAS (National Monument) landmark in the heart of Jakarta next month.
