AFL teams up with Google Australia

The Australian division of technology company Google has entered into a partnership with the AFL Aussie rules football competition.

The partnership covers the 2019 AFL season and will result in the introduction of three new AFL voting categories through Google Search.

The categories will give fans the chance to vote on the Friday Night Best on Ground and Player of the Round for the remainder of the 2019 Premiership season, along with the end-of-season Fan Awards. Fans can take part by searching ‘AFL vote’ on Google.

Today (Friday) marks the start of the Best on Ground category, on which fans can vote with Google for their top play in each Friday night match for the rest of the season and throughout the Finals Series.

Player of the Round nominees will be announced on Monday following the conclusion of weekend games. Fans will also be able to vote in new categories in the Fan Awards, which are due to launch at the end of the season.

The AFL’s general manager of commercial, Kylie Rogers, said: “Google’s ability to connect and engage with millions of people around the world will help bring the game of AFL to new audiences as well as our avid fans.”
