NFL American football team the San Francisco 49ers has entered into a multi-year partnership with augmented reality specialist MYXR.
The 49ers said the deal, which names MYXR as the team’s official augmented reality partner, marks the first time an AR company has signed a multi-year partnership with a professional sports team.
The partnership is designed to enhance the fan experience at Levi’s Stadium and across the team’s digital channels by delivering innovative AR offerings for supporters. The 49ers will work with MYXR and its Experience Platform to build upon its recent use of AR, which has seen the team distribute virtual trading cards to fans and create souvenir collector’s cups which are sold at the team’s convenience store.
“Our organisation prides itself on aligning with corporate partners with cutting-edge technologies that enhance fan engagement,” Brent Schoeb, the 49ers’ vice-president of corporate partnerships, said.
“We look forward to collaborating with MYXR on customised AR experiences using their MYXR Experience Platform to enhance our game days at Levi’s Stadium and year-round on our team digital channels.”
The first of the new MYXR Experiences will be introduced during the 2018 NFL regular season.
