The Tough Mudder obstacle course series has named outdoor clothing and apparel manufacturer Merrell a presenting partner of its global endurance events.
An initial two-year deal is set to expire at the end of the 2017 season, when the two parties will decide whether the agreement will be extended. The announcement names Merrell the first-ever presenting sponsor of Tough Mudder.
The series will be officially renamed Tough Mudder Presented by Merrell and the company will sponsor more than 60 events during the 2016 season.
The series is also introducing a new Tough Mudder Half event, a shorter-distance course, which Merrell will sponsor alongside the main series.
As part of the agreement, Merrell will develop an ‘All Out Crush’ running shoe that will be designed primarily for Tough Mudder races.
Will Dean, chief executive and co-founder of Tough Mudder, which was founded in 2010, said: “Tough Mudder is more than an event – it's a lifestyle based on teamwork, courage, personal accomplishment, and fun, and our partnership with Merrell reflects these shared values. Together we will continue to innovate and improve the event in 2016, and help inspire a new community of Mudders.”
