Tokyo 2020 has further expanded the roster of commercial partners for its bid to host the Summer Olympic Games by announcing interactive entertainment company Sega and life insurance firm Nippon as official bid partners.
The deals swell Tokyo 2020’s number of corporate supporters to 20 after the International Olympic Committee’s evaluation commission last month praised its marketing programme. Partners include car manufacturer Toyota, sportswear company Mizuno and internet search engine Yahoo Japan.
Tokyo 2020 estimates revenue from domestic sponsorship for the Olympic Games will total $932m (€789m), with an additional $26m for the Paralympic Games.
Madrid and Istanbul are also in the running to host the 2020 Olympics and the IOC will elect the host city at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires on September 7.
