Indian manufacturing giant Tata Steel has signed on as an associate sponsor of men’s hockey tournament the 2014 Champions Trophy, which takes place in the city of Bhubaneswar from December 6-14.
The biannual national team event is being hosted by Hockey India, with whom Tata has signed the agreement. Motorcycle manufacturer Hero is serving as the tournament’s title sponsor.
Hockey India president Narinder Batra said: “This development shows the advancement of Indian hockey where reputed corporate and sports promoters are coming together to take the sport to a new level altogether. Tata Steel Limited are deep rooted in this region and their association with hockey will inspire the people and especially the young generation towards the sport.”
Australia will defend its title at December’s event.
